A Few of My Favourite Author Tools

Making the job of a writer easier than a grilled cheese sandwich, with all the gooey yum-yum and none of the nasty after-snot.

These are my favourite tools to make your writing easy, fun and fast.

1
Structure of the Book

I adore this tool. It is free and you already have it. I bought then threw away Scrivener and now all I use is MS OneNote - onenote.com. It will help you organise, collect research, scribble notes, and structure your book.

2
The Right Words

You don't have to wait for the muse to strike to be creative. Just click through to thesaurus.com and have creativity at your finger tips. Then there is the sexy paid program visualthesaurus.com which makes finding words feel like a carnival ride.

3
The Right Words the Right Way

Don't let your modifiers dangle, your commas become superfluous, or your infinitives split. No idea at I'm talking about? Don't worry, grammarly.com will keep you on the straight and narrow, grammatically speaking.

4
Edit (almost) Like a Pro

If your writing is too hard to understand, too passive to engage or too boring to follow, it will fall flat like a bad souffle and no one will read it. Never fear, hemingwayapp.com has you covered and will make your writing sparkle.

5
Ideas On The Go

Typing too slow, painful or boring? Throw away your keyboard and start talking. You can talk to your phone, or you can buy Dragon nuance.com/dragon  or the use the free dictation.io which is actually better.

6
Organize Your Mind

Let me just say it - I LOVE MIND MAPS! My favourite is imindmap.com (not cheap but pretty dang awesome) and free: mindmeister.com is a great one, or draw your own with a big piece of paper and coloured pens.
